Hi all, I thought you might like to hear about my MKARS 80m kit, well it was very easy to build, and I'm glad to say it worked first time.
I decided to design my own box to put it in see photos below; it took me about a week on and off to do the complete build including the case.
Chris G4AYT is at the moment building a 137 kHz TX, as we run a TV video link between us we have been keeping an eye on each others progress.
Right, now its time to see if the kit works ok, The aerial I'm using is 132 foot long wire fed with coax, through an atu, first I used my ic706 on am to tune the atu to the 80m band, them connected the MKARS 80m transceiver to the atu when to my amazement the stations came booming in, Chris G4AYT was watching and listening on 80. Then Chris heard ON4PTC/P on 3.772 calling cq, he was in Passchendaele near Ypres,so Chris said give him a call, so I did, he came back to my call and gave me 5/5, he was 5/9 with me, his name was John and the time 10/22 am this morning 9/11/2009.
So there you have it, the kit works very well and I am very pleased with it. See pictures below, that’s all folks cheers, be lucky, Brian G6PKS.
Well here is my latest build,as you can see its the brats rf/swr bridge,as I was only able to get the PCB at the time, the rest I had to find myself. The box I had on the shelf so I decided to use that for the bridge.the front panel I designed on the computer as I do all of my front panels. It took me about 4 hours to build, and it works very well so here are the pictures of the finished project.watch this space for the next project, cheers Brian,g6pks.
Hi all, here we are again with my latest build, I am getting more interested in the lf bands as is Chris G4AYT,so I have build a 137 kHz preamp, the gain of most receivers fall off at 137 so a preamp is a must to bring it back up again.
Also the preamp has good filtering so it cuts out all the back ground rubbish, it works very well, the next project is to build a 137 kHz transmitter, we will keep you posted cheers be lucky Brian G6PKS.
